What’s on at Holmen Lofoten in 2022?

Holmen Lofoten is a boutique hotel and restaurant set amongst a huddle of converted fisherman’s cabins located in Sørvågen village, Moskenes, in the Lofoten Islands. You can hire Holmen for a private event, eat in our truly seasonal restaurant, stay in our rooms or join us at our events #KitchenOnTheEdgeOfTheWorld – where brilliant chefs and bright thinkers come to our far-flung corner to cook, talk and explore the landscape.

There are several different ways of experiencing Holmen Lofoten:

*SKREI* – COD SEASON

With the winter weather wild and brutal we’re starting the New Year with a tremendous storm in our village. We are completely led by the forces of nature here in Norway’s wild and rugged Lofoten Islands and look forward to welcoming you to our tiny, family run hotel and restaurant. Fresh fish, foraged herbs and cosy accommodation are ready and waiting for you to press pause on the chaos of everyday life, relax and reset. First day open is on Valentine’s Day, Feb 14. There will be a set 6-course menu available Wed – Sun based on bookings.

The Skrei season is at its peak in March and we can’t wait to welcome welshman Tomos Parry (Brat) for cod season as part of Kitchen On The Edge; a bucket-list experience of food, escapism and adventure set here in the Holmen Lofoten fishing isles. We explore the essence of Lofoten living in authentic fisherman’s cabins whilst enjoying the stunning winter daylight, spectrum of natural colours, fresh snow, as well as relishing the chance of spotting the dancing nordlys. And of course… our home is celebrated for being one of the best spots for sea fishing anywhere in the world.

March month is a time of reawakening and prosperity with the return of the Arctic Cod, sunshine and life to the islands.

*MIDNATTSSOL* – MIDNIGHT SUN

May month bids the snow goodbye and welcomes a new season of deliciousness from our surrounding wild pantry. Sour, sharp sorrel carpets the lower mountains while local suppliers provide us with organic and seasonal produce such as rhubarb, seiersløk and Lofoten goat. Our set menu is transformed into a daily changing a la carte menu of all things seasonal and will be available throughout the Lofoten summer.

In June, world renowned chefs Niklas Ekstedt and Margot Henderson join us for the summer equinox as part of Kitchen On The Edge, when our landscape comes alive under the midnight sun. Goats are producing rich milk for wonderful local cheeses and brunost while our team of chefs forage for wonderful cocktails. We will be celebrating the Arctic midsummer with mountain hiking, fishing, foraging, crafts and cooking. And with the midnight sun high in the sky, it’s hard to resist staying up all night – perhaps perched in our new, luxurious suites staring at the glittering sea?

As the Lofoten Islands comes alive under the midnattssol, June welcomes in a myriad of deliciousness from our surrounding wild pantry.

*ARKTISK HØST* – ARCTIC AUTUMN

September is no doubt a favourite season here at Holmen – with the wispy shimmering Aurora Borealis above us, bubbling mosses of mushrooms below and the seas bountiful with fish. We won’t say we will cook up a storm but the autumnal equinox will no doubt be celebrated as a once-in-a-life-time getaway seeing Michelin star chefs James Lowe and Richard Corrigan join us for Kitchen On The Edge. With the autumn smells arriving to the nose, the trees turning in colour, the grouse and hares soon to turn white, these incredible guest chefs will no doubt turn all ingredients into a seasonal carousel of magic.

Our restaurant will be open as normal in between the events, and our autumnal menu will be a seasonal set 6-course menu celebrating foraged herbs, ferments, wild berries and other delicacies from land and sea.

With the autumn smells arriving to the nose, the trees turning in colour, the grouse and hares soon to turn white, September ushers in a most favourite season at Holmen.
